Slips, trips and falls can lead to a loss of confidence  and injuries from bumps and bruises to broken bones. Once someone has fallen it can lead to a downward spiral of decreased mobility, reduced muscle strength and a sedentary lifestyle.

What can you do for yourself or someone you know who is at risk of falling?

1. Footwear

Wear well fitting shoes or slippers with a supportive back and a sole with grip.  Loose fitting footwear can easily cause trips

2. Environment

Ensure the home environment is well lit (use night lights) and free from any trip hazards such as rugs, wires or any uneven flooring.

3. Personal

If you have balance problems or muscle weakness caused by illness, frailty or sedentary lifestyle then you are at high risk or falls. Try to stay active and maintain or improve your muscle strength
